Now in the 21st Century.

Having written my blog in Microsoft word, it wasn’t pasting into the browser nicely so I have uploaded the document instead, hope this is readable to those who want to read it!

Not many photos as yet, the project itself is not very photogenic, but once i get some good shots i will upload them.

Hi Ben, glad all is going well. I’d heard from another source that these guys take recycling very seriously. Apparently it’s really good fun to put your bins out on the wrong day so you can watch the OTT reaction that follows.

Interesting that your project is also delayed (as are most of Matt’s). Is there some milage in delving deeper into why this appears endemic in USACE runs contracts? Sounds like us on Ops where we have limited recourse should a contractor fail to perform.

Yes I think you may be right that there is limited recourse, as the goverment does not want to put contractors out of business, also to some extend the ethos may be the overriding factor:

The contractors have to make their living from the project, whereas as government workers the USACE are more interested in the quality of the project, and their wage is independent of the project.

It would be interesting to lose the green skin and blend in with some contractors (it would probably have to be at a different site), to see if this is true. I know that contractors value USACE projects greatly as they are a good “in” to larger projects and budgets, and that seems to be the main incentive to tow the line.
