About

Welcome to the Holdfast Training Services Trial Blog site.  This site is being used to demonstrate how placed engineers could record their daily activities and share experiences.  The site is not open to the general public and membership is by invite only but the information posted on the site should never be of any classified or restricted nature.

It is currently hosted using a default WordPress blog site which allows only minimum customization and is limited to 35 private users.  WordPress is open source and could be installed on any host for maximum customization or can be hosted by WordPress with additional, chargeable, bolt on features allowing some more advanced customization such as branding.

Can you add more than 35 users?

Yes, if you upgrade you can have an unlimited number of users.

Is there an intention to start individual course blogs i.e. 59 PET(C)?
    Are Blogs editable after posting?
Who are the administrator and moderator for the RSME blogs?
    Where are they hosted?
Can users register multiple email addresses?
Will video or audio files posted to the site be viewable on Bromlan machines?

      Hi Richard,

At the moment this is just a trial to see if it works as a medium for recording a journal. Jim is driving the idea and I (Iain Blacklock, HTS IT) suggested something like a wordpress blog as a possible solution. If it proves to be a good option then I guess it would be possible to create course blogs.

You should be able to edit blog entries after creating them (I can) but I may need to play around with the roles I have assigned. Everybody in the trial should have author rights which I think should give them the ability to edit. Posts should not need moderation by an administrator either but we are all learning so tweeks may be required.

I am acting as the administrator for the site.

The site is currently being hosted on a public WordPress server to make use of a free trial. If the trial works out and it is something the authority wishes to pursue then we would look at getting our own server. It would still be hosted externally to allow access from anywhere and would still require people not to post restricted info.

Yes there is nothing to stop you registering with another email address and requesting access to the site.

Finaly, documents, photos and video can be uploaded to the blog but you may not be able to view them from BromLAN, the gateway between the internal network and the internet filters some content and it is not managed by Holdfast IT so we cannot change that I’m afraid.

      Hope that helps.

      Iain
